At-Home Tips: Outdoor Color Sorting

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY – COLOR SORTING

Getting outside is important for all kids, even at the 15 months - 2 age group. According to the Child Mind Institute, being outside encourages creativity, movement and provides different stimulation.  There are many different activities that you can do outside with your child and in this blog post, we will discuss on how to take your color sorting activities outside!

Similar to the indoor version, start by drawing different colored circles with sidewalk chalk (different colored hula hoops could also be used). This will continue to help reinforce the colors your child has been learning inside.

Once the colored circles are drawn out the fun can begin! In true Twister fashion, instruct your child to jump or place a hand or foot on to a specific color.  This will help engage them both cognitively and physically (especially helping to promote balance!).  You can also make modifications to this game in the following ways:

·      Use numbers and letters instead of colors

·      Do it in reverse!  Have your child jump on a specific color and ask them what color they landed on

This game is a quick and easy way to get your child moving, to help master learning milestones, and to get some fresh air 😊

Happy Playing!
